Be ready to scuff, scuff and scuff alittle more. Date: July 28, 2009
"This review is only about the application process because I have had Herculiner applied to my vehicle for only a few weeks and I personally do not know how durable and protective it is long term. I can say that it's finished appearance is very nice and professional looking. Now, the directions state that the preparation stage is key to this product successfully adhering to your vehicle's metal body long term. Bascially, that means you must scuff the GLOSS off of the metal and when you're done scuffing, scuff some more. You don't have to take the paint completely off though. The abrasive pad they give you is not going to be enough to complete the job so stock up on more pads or sandpaper. I used an electric sander as well. Overall, I spent almost 4 hours scuffing the bed and tailgate. Removing tiedowns, taping and wiping everything down with Acetone took another hour. Applying the first coat of Herculiner with the roller took an hour. Then it took 4 more hours to dry before I could finally put the 2nd coat on. I would plan on doing this project over a weekend. Preping, scuffing and applying the first coat on day one and letting it dry overnight and applying the final coat on the 2nd day. Final words of advice: WEAR gloves. You'll be glad that you did. Buy a cheap throw away paint brush for the 2nd coat and use blue painter's tape for taping."
