"I used to purchase Weed Whompin Mulch from a nursery that discontinued it. Their customers were upset, but as luck would have it, my favorite local hardware store has it available to ship from the DoItBest warehouse and at a MUCH better price than the nursery.
This mulch is far and away the best I've ever tried. One thing to note is that it does break down more quickly than other mulches. That's a good thing if you don't mind replenishing it once or twice a year. The wood chips are partially composted and they become a part of and enrich the soil over time, naturally. I don't seem to get those tiny spinters when handling it, either. The added corn gluten is a natural weed suppressant.
But my favorite aspect of this product is that when laid down, it really looks natural, like a forest floor. Other bark-based mulches look too formal, too dark, too ordinary and out of place for my taste; I want the exposed ground around my informal plantings to blend in with the scene and give me a sense of nature and soften my suburban reality.
If you like mulches that are red, chocolate brown, evenly-sized (formal), or chunky then this mulch is not for you. If you want something that complements your informal garden then nothing could be better."
